ACCESSIBILITY - 2019
Programmatic Accessibility
The event offers a wide variety of activities, and all participants are invited to join in according to their preferences and abilities. Collaborating artists have all been advised and offered programmatic support to maximize the accessibility of their offerings.
Physical Accessibility
See the Stinson Beach Accessibility web page for general information. Additional accessibility features have been added for this event. See details below.
Parking and location:
The main focus of the event is the south end of the beach, near the south end of the packed dirt south parking lot, where accessible parking spaces are designated by signage and traffic cones. Additional accessible spaces are in the main parking lot.
Restrooms:
There are accessible restrooms in the main parking lot, with accessible parking nearby. The restrooms in the south parking lot are accessible inside, but there are three steps up to the landing of the restroom building. A portable accessible toilet is located in the south parking lot, near the restrooms.
Access to beach:
Two beach wheelchairs will be available for shuttling between the south end of the south parking lot and the beach. The route includes a 30 foot section at 8 to 10 percent grade on soft sand near the south parking lot, and a more gradual slope to the event area, about 200 feet from the south parking lot. Beach wheelchairs can't be propelled by the seated person, so someone else with them must do the pushing. A beach wheelchair shuttle coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that a beach wheelchair is at the ready or available within a few minutes, both in the south parking lot and at the beach. Beach wheelchair shuttles can also be used for short trips from area to area within the event space.
Near the main parking lot, a 200-foot ADA-compliant ramp extends down to the beach.
Seating:
Participants are encouraged to bring their own seating- blankets, towels, or folding chairs for example. Limited seating will be available in standard-height folding chairs with backs, at a set of tables in participatory arts area.
Thanks:
Thanks to National Park Service Accessibility Program Manager Richard De La O for assistance with planning and implementing this accessibility plan. Thanks to Mill Valley Refuse Service for donating an accessible portable toilet rental.
